North Elementary had brief lockdown this morning

At 7:31 a.m. on Monday, May 21st the Madison Township Police Department was dispatched to an incident at a private residence on Chapel Road.  The incident was reported to possibly involve firearms and in very close proximity to North Elementary School.  However the incident did not directly involve the school.  As a precautionary measure North Elementary School was placed in lockdown at 7:37 a.m.  Officers were on scene at 7:35 a.m. and quickly determined that there was no threat to the school or other neighbors.  The school was released from lockdown by 7:43 a.m., 9 minutes after being placed on lockdown.

As always we are going to take direction from the police and get communication out as quickly as possible.  We appreciate the quick response of the township police department and our school resource officers.  We are thankful for the quick resolution of the situation.

The Empty Chair The Empty Chair

The Madison Local Schools Students Against Destructive Decisions in collaboration with The Fine Arts Association will be presenting “The Empty Chair”.

The play, by Tim Kelly, is set in a counseling center for teenagers recovering from substance abuse.  One of their peers, Robert, has just died of an overdose.  Accident or suicide?  The atmosphere is tense and uneasy.  Finally, each young person speaks about his or her memory of Robert.  The dramatic monologues tell the audience a great deal about each speaker and the terrors of drug abuse.  Although Robert remains something of a mystery, his impact on the others is undeniable.  This is a hard-hitting work with an emotionally strong anti-drug message.

The Fine Arts Association “Theatre for Healthy Living” production is being brought to Madison Middle School on May 18, 2018 for two performances.  The first performance is for 8th grade students at 2:00 in the afternoon and a free evening performance for the community is at 7:00 p.m. at Madison Middle School.

If you have any questions or need more information, please feel free to contact Ralf Caswell at 440-428-9362.

Joint Statement from Madison Local Schools and Madison Township Police

Tonight, February 21, the Madison Township Police Department and the Madison Local Schools became aware of rumors that a student was going to bring a gun to Madison High School tomorrow.  After investigating the rumors, the Madison Township Police Department determined there was no credible threat at this time.  Both the Madison Local Schools and the Madison Township Police want our students and staff to be safe.  We thank people for following the mantra when you see something, say something.

School Bus Safety School bus

Sharing the Road with School Buses

Never pass a bus from behind - or from either direction if you're on an undivided road - if it is stopped to load or unload children.

If the yellow or red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended; traffice MUST stop.

The area 10 feet around a school bus is the most dangerous for children; stop far enough back to allow them space to safety enter and exit the bus.

Be alert!  Children often are unpredictable, and they tend to ignore hazards and take risks.

The speed limit in school zones is 20 mph during school recess and during the opening and closing hours of schools.  A speeding offense in a school zone carries a maximum possible penalty of $300 plus court costs.
