Description:
This course is geared toward students who are interested in technical drawing/CAD problem solving projects related to product design and/or architecture.  Students will experience product and architectural design with pencil/paper and computer aided design techniques.

Students who are interested in enrolling in this class are interested in a trade, physical and/or graphic art, product design, architecture, manufacturing and/or engineering.

Note to future engineers, artists, and designers; companies and universities are looking for students with hands-on design and building experiences with various tools and materials rather than students with just book knowledge and computer skills.

This course series that follows is intended to meet the needs of the technical and college bound student who are interested in engineering, architecture, and/or product design
Level 1 (Product Design) In this level, student will develop various types of mechanical drawing skills relating to industrial and/or consumer products. Students will experience the design process, product evolution, & reverse engineering. The research and preparation for a product is intended to acquaint the student with important structural elements of industrial design. Students will also experience knowledge about fabrication & manufacturing. To be successful, students need to ask teacher for guidance but have the self-discipline to work alone. Expression of original ideas in drawing is encouraged.

Level 2 (Product Design) In this level, students will continue to develop the skills and abilities started in Level 1. Problems in Level 2 are more challenging than Level 1. The research and preparation for products intended to acquaint the student with important structural elements of industrial design. Students are encouraged to express original ideas in drawing and to refine their techniques. Students will experience the design process and product innovation.  Students will learn and use design software such as AutoDesk. Prerequisite Passing the previous Drafting class with a grade “C” or above plus positive behavior & work ethics

Level 3 (Architecture) In this level, students will use their technical drawing skills to produce a set of residential drawings and a model. The research and preparation for a residential home is intended to acquaint the student with important structural elements of architecture.  Students will also experience knowledge about home construction. Students will learn software such as AutoDesk. Prerequisite Passing the previous Drafting with a grade “C” or above plus positive behavior & work ethics.
Level 4 (Architecture) In this level, students will continue to develop the skills and abilities started in Level 3. Problems in Level 4 are more challenging than Level 3. Students will explore a wide range of drawing areas in architecture. Student will use AutoDesk. Prerequisite Passing the previous Drafting with a grade “C” or above plus positive behavior & work ethics.

“A designer's challenge is to make an artist's ideas become feasible. An engineer’s/architect's role is to make the designer’s idea workable. A tradesman’s role is to make the engineer’s ideas reality.” – me

A drafter plays a support role to these professionals.  Drafting is a basic computer and pencil/paper skill for these professions.
