The football field at the former location of Madison Memorial High School/Memorial Complex at 92 East Main Street in Madison Village was removed to make way for th new South Elementary School. Up until that point, the football field was known as Dick Hamblin Field, in memory of the first Madison High School graduate to be killed in action in Vietnam. Dick was killed on September 21, 1967 as a member of Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines. Dick Hamblin's name will officially move to the current Madison High School Alumni Stadium Football Field on August 28, 2015, this will include a name board placed on the scoreboard and also a metal sign to be placed at the turnstile main entrance to the field. There will also be two bronze plaques added to the Vietnam and Korean War Memorials in the Veteran Memorial Park at the field listing the names of all the Madison residents killed in action in both of those wars.
The Naming Ceremony will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. prior to the Geneva vs Madison home football game, which is also Alumni Night. There will be a Color Guard, services, aircraft flyovers, bagpipers, a rifle salute, etc. during the ceremony. Dick's class has agreed to have a Class of 1966 Madison Memorial High School get together to coincide with this ceremony. Some of Dick's family members also plan on attending. It is important to the community to keep Dick's memory alive. He gave all for his country.
