Community Update, November 4

Angela Smith, Superintendent

November 4,  2022

Dear Madison Community,

I hope you have been enjoying the beautiful weather we have had these last few days. I continue to marvel at how fast the days go by and that we are already into November.

Our schools are closed on Tuesday, November 8, for Election Day. Voting takes place in two district buildings, and with a larger turnout for November polls, the district decided several years ago to close the schools on November voting days to ensure student safety.

I am excited to share with you that the cameras we purchased from the $200,000 safety grant we received this fall have arrived and are in the process of being installed. These outdoor cameras will enhance our safety measures throughout the district.

Thank you again to the Madison Joint Recreation District for sponsoring the Car Raffle with the Chevy Network Dealers and Classic Chevrolet of Madison. Funds from this raffle will be used for improvements to our athletic complex. If you have not purchased a ticket yet, please go to www.madisonschools.net and click on the link available under “Latest News.” We have sold almost 2,000 tickets and will continue selling on the website as well as at Walmart on weekends (outside the door) throughout the month of November. A big thank you to Walmart for partnering with us.

I continue to make a plea for part-time workers – just like businesses across the country, we need help in all areas. If you would like to work as a substitute teacher, classroom aide, nutrition services worker, or custodian, please contact Dave Bull at david.bull@madisonschools.net. If you would like to drive a bus, contact Kim Boggs at Community Bus Service at kboggs@com-bus.com. We appreciate those who have answered our plea as we ensure our students have the support they need in all areas. Those who work with our students on a regular basis know that this is a rewarding and wonderful way to connect with the next generation!

Please check out today’s Good News Newsletter – this week, we follow up on the high school curtain project, share focus on the Graduation Seals required for the class of 2023, and feature our Nutrition Services Department, which works to ensure our students have breakfast and lunch every day. Take time to enjoy this beautiful weekend, and please remember to vote next Tuesday, November 8.   #MadisonStrong!

Sincerely,

Angela Smith

Superintendent
