Dear Madison Community,
It is hard to believe how fast the start of the school year has gone; we are halfway through the first quarter. Madison Middle School just completed conferences and high school conferences are September 21 and September 29. No appointment is necessary. Elementary teachers are scheduling appointments for conferences in October. Check with your child’s teacher for more details regarding elementary conferences. Also be sure to check Infinite Campus regarding your child’s grades. The partnership between home and school is critical to student success.
The state of Ohio released the state report cards this week. They have once again changed the way schools are rated, now utilizing a star rating system. The ratings translate as follows: one star means significantly below expectations; two stars means below expectations; three stars means meeting expectations; four stars means exceeding expectations; five stars mean significantly exceeding expectations. In achievement, we are three stars. In gap closing, we are four stars, graduation three stars, growth and early literacy two stars. We would have rated higher in early literacy, but there was a data error that we were unable to correct. There is not an overall rating this year, but next year the overall rating returns. While we want to have all areas at four or five stars, our staff worked diligently last year to help students make up ground lost by the pandemic. I am confident that we will make improvements in the coming year as our staff focuses on the continuous growth and improvement of all our students.
In addition, I have received some questions regarding the link for the car raffle. Due to a change in the law, the raffle is now being sponsored by the Madison Joint Recreation District. Once all the details are finalized, the Hometown Ticketing Link will be reactivated; we will still have tickets available at the Board Office and at events in the coming week. Thank you for your support of this fundraiser, as all proceeds will still benefit improvements to the Madison Athletic Complex.
Please be sure to read the Good News Newsletter today. Our new Treasurer is featured in it, as well as the district recognition of PBIS and a feature on Madison Pre-K. I look forward to sharing with you throughout the year the people and programs that make Madison Schools so special.
Thank you to all for the great start of the school year, and I hope that everyone enjoys the last weekend of summer! #MadisonStrong!
Sincerely,
Angela Smith
Superintendent
