Correct spelling is important for many reasons, the most important being that spelling is: a key indicator of literacy (which is a key skill in determining overall academic and future success); an integral part of effective and clear communication; and it has a direct impact on future job opportunities. For these important reasons, our elementary and middle schools encourage spelling to be fun for students – and what’s more fun than a spelling bee?!
On January 20, the Spelling B-E-E-S listed below represented North Elementary, South Elementary, and Madison Middle School in grades 4-8. This annual Spelling Bee allows students to compete for the chance to advance to the Lake County Spelling Bee.
Congratulations to our grade-level winners:
- Maria Kuholski, 4th Grade, North Elementary School
- Alivia Silva, 5th Grade, South Elementary School
- Mason Radovanic, 6th Grade, Madison Middle School
- Layla Brown, 7th Grade, Madison Middle School
- Molly Wilson, 8th Grade, Madison Middle School
Madison’s Overall District Winner is Molly Wilson, with the winning word “adaptable.” Molly will represent the district in the Lake County Spelling Bee on February 1.
Great job, everyone, and good luck from the d-i-s-t-r-i-c-t, Molly!
