Remember to exercise all safety precautions, even over the holidays

Incubation Timeline

We would like to remind all Madison Local Schools staff and students to continue practicing health and safety habits and social distancing protocols. We have procedures in place to limit contact from student to student on our campuses, but we cannot control what anyone else does outside of the school environment. We need to remember to remain vigilant to the real possibility of being exposed to COVID-19 as we go about our daily lives.

As we approach the holidays, these reminders become even more important. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Robert Redfield has stressed to U.S. governors that even small gatherings are contributing to an increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in at least 36 states. Experts warn to use caution when preparing to see extended family over the holidays, and when welcoming home college students, who often show mild or no symptoms but can still spread the virus to others.

COVID-19 has a 14-day incubation period, as outlined in the attached visual. If you have been exposed to COVID-19 and have been told to quarantine, please do so for the full 14-day period, even if you feel healthy and have had a negative COVID-19 test, for the safety of those around you. We want to do everything in our power to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within our district, and that requires us to all be wearing our masks, washing our hands, maintaining social distancing protocols, and staying home when we don’t feel well -- while these are things we can monitor at school, these are not things we can keep track of when you are home. Please keep gathering to a minimum  and constantly exercise all safety precautions.
