MLS District Spelling Bee

Spelling Bee District Winner

Congratulations to all students who participated in the Madison Local Schools District Spelling Bee! The Bee was held at Madison Middle School on Tuesday, January 26, at 9:00 A.M.

The contest lasted fourteen rounds, with Lucy Pittsinger, South Elementary grade 5, walking away as our Bee winner. Lucy’s winning word was “rallies.” The runner-up was Addison Gladwell, Madison Middle School, grade 6.

Lucy will represent Madison Local Schools at the Lake County Spelling Bee, which will be held on February 9, 2021, at the Hale Road School in Painesville.

Several changes were made to the contest this year in order to promote student and staff safety:

  • Students were seated socially-distanced across the stage.

  • Masks were removed only when spelling.

  • Audience members were limited to two guests per speller and were socially distanced in the cafeteria.

  • Spellers used a Chromebook and spelled in a Zoom meeting to allow the judges to hear. This allowed us to not have to use a single microphone for seven spellers.

  • The awards ceremony was also socially distanced, with each speller picking up awards from a table on stage.

Congratulations to all spellers who qualified for the District Bee through their individual building Spelling Bees:
