February 1-17, South Elementary held a “Vote for Kindness” fundraiser. Student Council members chose three organizations to research as options for donation. The organizations chosen were the Lake County Humane Society, Project Hope for the Homeless, and Madison Public Library Bookmobile. Students used limited edition “Kindness Bucks” as a way to vote for which organization to donate money to out of the three.

The organizations were presented to the school by Student Council members, outlining the organization’s mission before voting.

The results of the Kindness Bucks votings are as follows:

  • Lake County Humane Society – 820 votes
  • Project Hope for the Homeless – 603 votes
  • Madison Public Library Bookmobile – 342 votes

With those votes, South Elementary will be donating $321 to the Lake County Humane Society! $141 was donated by SES staff and $180 was raised from pencilgram sales by students.

Additionally, the Vote for Kindness included a coloring contest with prizes awarded. The contest collected 89 entries from students and staff alike.
