Madison Schools/Madison Township Police Joint Statement on Madison High School Threat

Last night, Madison Local Schools administration was made aware of social media threats targeting Madison High School. While we believed the threats were not credible, we have an obligation to protect our students and staff and keep them safe. Out of an abundance of caution, we made the decision to close all schools today.

The Madison Township Police Department and the Madison Schools administration investigated the threat through last night and this morning. As we suspected, the threat was not credible. Classes will resume as scheduled on Monday, October 21.

We are aware that the notification system failed for some families during the cancellation process. We are currently working with the system provider to find out why that happened and to ensure that it doesn’t happen again. We apologize for the inconvenience to all impacted families.

Madison Local Schools has zero tolerance for threats of violence. It does not matter if the threat is “real” or not. All threats are taken seriously and treated as such by both the school district and the Madison Township Police Department. An individual who makes a threat against the school could face expulsion and possibly criminal charges.

This has been a stressful and challenging past 24 hours. We hope all of our Madison Blue Streak families have a safe and enjoyable weekend. All weekend athletic contests will go on as scheduled, including tonight’s away football game at Kenston. We look forward to seeing all of our students when classes resume on Monday. #WeAreMadison
