Welcome to MMS and 6th Grade Math!
My name is Mr. Zentgraf and I have been with the Madison Local Schools teaching 6th grade Math for 19 years. I enjoy the opportunity to teach children about math and how it is used and relates to life in their world. I believe every child has the ability to learn and succeed and I consider it a privledge to be a part of this process. I also coach cross country and track for the 7th and 8th grade boys and girls.
My classroom is very structured for my students. Each day we discuss and write in our assignment notebooks what our "learning target" is with an "I can..." statement and also write down the assignment from the assignment board. My instruction is driven by the State of Ohio Math Standards and includes a variety of instructional techniques including: whole class instruction, partner and small group activities and exploration, instructional video lessons using a variety of internet sites, graphic organizers and journals where students reflect and explain their learning and understanding of concepts taught in each unit. This year we will also be using a new online curriculum and each student will be receiving a workbook called Performance Coach. The problems contained in the workbook are aligned to our state test and mirror the types of problems they will encounter on the state test in the Spring of 2018.
I am married and have 3 children. My wife is a 2nd grade teacher in the Riverside Local School district. My oldest child (Mandy) is a physical therapy assistant and is 26 years old. My oldest son Ben is 22 and is currently employed by Lake County and works in their environmental division. My youngest son Joshua is 11years old and is in 5th grade this year and he enjoys running, playing baseball and basketball.
What I Enjoy:
I love sports (Indians, Cavs, Browns) and enjoy other outdoor activities such as golf, camping, hiking, fishing, and traveling. I love coaching cross country and track here at MMS and spending time with my family. I would love to one day visit Alaska and Hawaii, tour many of our National Parks out west, as well as camp and hike along the entire Blue RIdge Parkway.
