Cheerleading Team takes home State Championship Title

Congratulations to the Madison High School Cheerleading Team for winning a State Championship Title, Division 3 State Champions for Non-Tumble from the Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators (OASSA), the highest title you can win at the high school level. OASSA is a separate organization for cheerleading and dance teams to compete.

The team has twelve members, including ten seniors, two juniors, and one sophomore. The team conditions in the summer, learns choreography in August, and then proceeds with a regular practice schedule, competing November to April.

“In a normal season, we usually attend close to ten competitions,” says Coach Heidi Verdi. “With COVID, we had some cancelations, but we were still able to do two virtual and three in-person competitions so far.”

The team is getting ready to compete at Nationals on April 10, with the hope of bringing home their first National Grand Champion title.

“This year’s team is one of the most talented I’ve seen, and we know they will do great,” beams Coach Verdi. “With ten seniors graduating, that leaves big shoes to fill for next season, but we are hoping the success we have had this year will encourage more students to try out. A lot of students do not know we compete, win trophies, and bring home titles. It truly is a very exciting team to be a part of.”

Congratulations to our Cheerleading Team, and good luck at Nationals!
