On Friday, December 9, 40 STEM students from MHS’ Engineering classes toured Cleveland State University’s (CSU) College of Engineering labs and the Dan T. Moore MakerSpace, an innovation and design lab for the CSU community that provides hands-on fabrication equipment for working with metal, wood, and plastic. Throughout the day, students learned about different disciplines of engineering, as well as the admission and financial aid processes.
Students were privy to multiple lectures and demonstrations within the engineering area, including:
- Presentation by W.C. Vance, Manager of Student Services (Engineering)
- Presentation by Dr. Davis, Associate Dean and Professor of Engineering, about engineering the TAVR heart valve, rehabilitation treadmill, and treadmill for astronauts
- A simulated trichotomy with a medical training device
- How robotics help people with spinal injury impairments to feed themselves
Students were also able to explore the labs on CSU campus, talk to current CSU students, and learn more about the daily life of a college student.
