Backpack Fund distributes 130 backpacks of supplies to students

Backpack Fund

On Saturday, August 14, from 12-2 pm, Madison students held a Backpack Fund supply drop at the Madison Public Library, where students gave away backpacks full of supplies. A total of 160 backpacks full of supplies were collected for distribution, and only 30 were left at the end of the event.

The Backpack Fund was started by some Riverside graduates and expanded to Madison this summer, thanks to alumni Marcus Horton, MHS 2020, with help from Delaney Horton, MHS 2021, and Brenden Snopel, MHS 2020. The main goal of the Backpack Fund is to ensure every student in Lake County has access to the school supplies and scholarships they need to pursue their dreams through community support for each other.

Madison partners included Paquet Auto, the Madison Public Library, and many individual donors. Other school supply donations were collected and distributed by East End Y Leaders Club, Dollar General Operation Homefront, Great Day Child Care, and more.
