Community Update, January 13

Angela Smith, Superintendent

January 13, 2023

Dear Madison Community:

I hope you all enjoyed the holidays.  Hard to believe our second semester is well underway.  Other than today, the weather has been beyond perfect for January, and each day, we inch a little closer to more daylight.

I want to share with you a community opportunity, Table Talk, sponsored by the Crossroads Community Church, The Ohio State University Extension Office, University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s, and the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund.  The focus of Table Talk is making meaningful conversations a priority in your family.  The program is free and will be held January 24, January 31, and February 7 from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m at Crossroads Community Church. It will be a true family event.  Dinner for the family will be provided and participants will engage in conversations about parenting today.  I have attached more information to this newsletter.  As a grandparent and a 36-year educator, I see first-hand the joy –  and the challenges – of raising children today;  I appreciate our community having this opportunity and thank all who worked to bring it to Madison.

I want to give a shout-out to our Maintenance Supervisor, Pat Smith.  When the ice storm hit over Christmas weekend, he came in and walked the buildings every few hours to ensure there were no busted pipes and ensured the buildings were warm enough to sustain the cold.  Because of his commitment, we had no issues through the storm, when other districts were not so lucky. Pat truly treats these buildings as if they were his own home, and his team continually goes above and beyond.

We have a group of community members creating a scholarship fund for a former Madison student, Ashton Hynd, who died in a tragic car accident before the holiday.  This group is looking for donations for a basket raffle and Chinese auction items.  The benefit is January 28 at Brew Streaks.   For more information, email greglaurie@twc.com..

The district received notification that Middle Ridge Road will be closed to through traffic for several months from Hubbard Road to Burns Road starting January 23, 2023.  Please plan accordingly when coming to events at either Madison High School or Madison Middle School.

Our newsletter this week features our Pupil Services Department, available senior scholarships, and an update on the district’s use of the American Rescue Plan funds.  Please take time to read what is going on in the district.  If you have an idea for an article,  please email me at angela.smith@madisonschools.net.

Please remember that there is no school on Monday, January 16, 2023 as we recognize the Martin Luther King Holiday.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend.  #MadisonStrong!

Sincerely,

Angela Smith

Superintendent
