Community Update, May 25

Angela Smith, Superintendent

May 25, 2023

Dear Madison Community,

We have come to the end of another school year.  The year has flown by and our students are ready for summer break.  We have celebrated so many events this past month, and students and staff have finished the year strong.  I appreciate all the organizations who have helped our students and staff this year.

As we look to next year, we will continue to have a staggered start.  That information will be available in my first update in August.

Yesterday on the news, I heard about a report issued by the Surgeon General regarding social media and students’ mental health.  Students who spend multiple hours a day on social media are more at risk for increased anxiety and depression among other mental issues.  I encourage all families to unplug this summer and enjoy all that our area has to offer in terms of parks and recreation opportunities.  Our library has so many offerings for our students, and their summer reading program is amazing.  Taking time to unplug and reconnect is my plan, too.

This is my final plea for kindergarten registration. If you know of a kindergarten family, please remind them to register.  If you attended the kindergarten meeting last month, remember that your child is not enrolled until you complete the online registration.  Please take the time to complete the process so we can adequately plan for next school year.  If you need help, please contact Denean Mabe at denean.mabe@madisonschools.net

Finally, please take a moment to read our last community Newsletter of the 2022-23 school year.  The articles this week include: Class of 2023 celebrated at Commencement, Senior Scholarship Night, MLS celebrates with end-of-the-year activities, and Kiwanis and Key Club Service Awards.

I hope you have a safe and wonderful summer.   #MadisonStrong!

Sincerely,

Angela Smith

Superintendent
