Both elementary buildings held their fall family literacy nights at the end of October. Families were able to attend face-to-face and virtually! At South Elementary, staff decorated their cars for families to drive by and guess the book they were depicting. The family fun-filled event was put on by South’s literacy team, Amy Markijohn, District Literacy Specialist, and Debbie Schwartz, Title 1 Reading Specialist. Ms. Kriegmont, South Principal, stated that since students stayed in their cars, it was nice to see the smiles that they don’t normally see with the masks on.
North Elementary took a different approach and hosted a virtual literacy night to kick off their One School, One Book event, The Pet War. One School, One Book is a non-profit organization that promotes family literacy. They are doing this as a part of the Family Literacy Partnership with the State Support Team. A shout out goes to Jill Myers, Ashley Pridemore, Theresa Oshaben, and Jovette Hiltenun for organizing a virtual scavenger hunt related to pets.
