Community update, October 16, 2020

Dear Madison Community,

I hope that everyone has had the opportunity to enjoy this beautiful fall season. The colors have been spectacular and have provided me a sense of hope as we go into the colder months of late fall and early winter. We are fortunate here in Lake County: while the virus is with us, we are working hard to keep it at bay.

We need to keep following the social distancing and other COVID-19 guidelines as mandated by the governor in order to keep the schools open. “Mask-up, Back-up, and Wash-up”  are what we tell our students everyday. These three things, along with our cleaning protocols, are helping to keep our students safe and well. Please continue to keep your students home if they are sick and assess their symptoms daily; this too will limit the spread of germs, even if it is not COVID-19 related.

I received notification today that the free meals for students will continue through June 30, 2021 for all students, whether in-person or virtual. If your family qualifies for free/reduced meals, it is still important that you complete the application. School fees are waived only if we have the submitted forms. In addition, if there is another round of Electronic Benefits issued, recipients must have a current application on file. The application for free or reduced meals can be found in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal under Meal Benefits. Please contact Nutrition Services at 440-428-9332 if you need assistance or have questions.

Finally, as the nine weeks comes to a close, check your child’s progress in his/her classes. If you have questions or concerns, reach out to the teachers or building administrators. We know that this year has been challenging and students are working to make-up lost ground. We want your students to have a successful experience, whether online or virtual, and regular communication between home and school is important in allowing for that success. Also, please remember to update your child’s Emergency Medical Authorization forms in Infinite Campus.  Directions are as follows:

Step 1: Log in to the parent portal

Step 2: Select MORE for left hand side of screen

Step 3: Select EMA/ATHLETICS in the middle of screen

Step 4: Choose click here to go to existing student registration

Step 5: Begin restoration

Step 6: Follow the prompts and be sure to click on red submit button at the end

Thank you again for helping to make this first quarter a positive experience for our students. We are #MadisonStrong!

Sincerely,

Angela Smith

Superintendent
