Key Concepts for Unit 6

vowel-consonant -e Syllables- (v-e syllables)- any word that has any vowel, consonant and then an -e.  EX.  cake, Pete, flute.  Children should begin to recognize this pattern.  We will compare words such as, cap vs. cape 

We will combine these syllables with closed syllables to make new words.  EX. reptile


Sounds of s- S can make 2 sounds like /s/ like in base or /z/ like in bugs. 

RULE:  English words do not end with the letter v.  The letter e comes along and helps by being added to the end of words.  EX. have, give, creative
