Fry's Phrases

Fry's Phrases - The words in these phrases come from Dr. Edward Fry’s Instant Word List (High Frequency Words).  According to Fry, the first 300 words in the list represent about 67% of all the words students encounter in their reading.   

Practice reading these short sentences and phrases to improve students' speed and accuracy in reading fluency.  Remember, being a more fluent reader typically results in comprehending more of what is read.  Download these Powerpoint presentations to practice:

(Once you start the slide show, the slides move from phrase to phrase automatically. Your child should be able to read the phrase/short sentence in the time given.  Students should master (be able to fluently read) the first 100 phrases before moving on to the next set of phrases.)
